Research Working Groups

Our team is divided in 3 main research Working Groups. This structure allows the team members to reach their full capacity and explore areas of interest in the world of applied research!

This Working Group develops digital and technological solutions for vehicles. Through the use of sensors, code, and predictive algorithms, the goal is to achieve autonomous navigation, dynamic obstacle avoidance, and the creation of Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS). A prototype experimental autonomous vehicle setup has been developed for initial testing, while a collaborative project is underway to create a Digital Twin Framework for the coordination of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) swarms. Additionally, the team is participating in the 2026 Self-Driving Car Student Competition, powered by MathWorks and Quanser, where we are developing the navigation logic for an autonomous vehicle, which is part of a Cyber-Physical System.

Research in this Working Group focuses on the development and optimization of wastewater treatment methods for both municipal and industrial wastewater, with an emphasis on the mathematical modeling of these processes. A key pillar of this group is the utilization of the existing reverse osmosis experimental setup. This setup is intended as a platform for digital twin technologies, enabling the accurate simulation, control, and optimization of the system’s operation.

This Working Group focuses on the digital transformation of the energy sector. The main objective is to provide comprehensive practical training for members, with an emphasis that goes beyond conventional renewable energy technologies. The group’s activities focus on the design of smart systems, the implementation of digital automation technologies, the collection and analysis of energy data (data analytics), and the resolution of real-world operational problems. Through this approach, students develop critical technical skills and learn to manage demanding technical projects (project management). Furthermore, as part of its outreach and applied research efforts, the team is actively preparing two proposals for participation in international competitive processes.
